Case study: Emergency boiler in Chesterfield
Problem:
An emergency repair in Chesterfield was required as a 92-year-old gentleman’s boiler had broken down.
Due to the weather (mid-January) and the age of the homeowner we needed to get the heating and hot water back up and running as quickly as possible. In addition to the weather and age of the gentleman there was another factor in that the house was being sold so it needed to be resolved as soon as possible.
Location:
A property in Chesterfield.
Review of existing situation:
The boiler needed a new PCB, however, due to the age of the boiler it was not something that was readily available as a supply part.
Challenges and Solution:
The age of the boiler impacted the availabilty of the parts needed. In this case it was a PCB – which is the “heart” of the boiler. It stands for the Printed Circuit Board and all the electric components within the boiler communicate with it. It also monitors the pressure, temperature and currents that flow through to ensure that the boiler is working properly (in a way that) they don’t damage the internal parts.
Usually in these circumstances we would give the owner the opportunity to either repair or replace (with a more modern system). However, this wasn’t viable in this situation. The extra expense of installing a new system wasn’t a factor that the owner had wanted to take on as he was due to move.
Therefore, it was in his best interests to replace the part. Sourcing it was quite a challenge due to the age of the boiler (but we are always up for one) and we were really pleased to have managed it.
Outcome:
A replacement PCB installed and the lovely gentleman involved had hot-water and heating, which given the weather and his age were incredibly important.
It meant that he could sell his home [so that he could move to be closer to his daughter] knowing that the heating will be in good working order for the next owner.
A job well done and his daughter was absolutely delighted and couldn’t thank us enough.
